Background Tests

Here is an example of what a typical background would look like.  The goal is to get somewhere in between a matte painting and a photograph.  The original photo was taken with a Canon 7D in downtown.  The image was then taken into photoshop and color timed.  The sky was replaced and search lights were added to be later animated.  In addition, we experimented with adding neon signs to the sides of building, some of which will be animated.

Here is the original photo:

The goal with the backgrounds is two fold.  First, is to shoot in locations that we would normally not be able to shoot.  It's much simpler to take photographs rather than bring in a whole crew and equipment.  Second is to provide a foundation that illustrators can add onto, which should be less time consuming than drawing backgrounds from scratch.
